  NEWMAP-EIB engages in strategic Partnership with technical partners to Boost staff capacity. NEWMAP-EIB remains committed to its vision to promote Nigeria’s resilience to climate change impacts land its mission to contribute to Nigeria’s climate change Adaptation, resilience, and mitigation through watershed management approach for sustainable development. The meeting explored potential partnership opportunities particularly in enhancing the capacity of NEWMAP-EIB staff through trainings, providing technical services and support in the field of materials technology, innovation, engineering infrastructure, from quality control to leading-edge research.   The National Project Coordinator of NEWMAP-EIB, Engr. Ayuba Anda Yalaks NIAE, FNAH, FNIWE, on Friday, 18th October 2024 held a meeting with the Centre for Renewable Energy Action for Climate Change ( CREACC) team led by its Executive Director, Usman Mohammed. The aim of the meeting was to introduce the Climate Eyes and NOF cooling systems to NEWMAP-EIB. Discussions also centered on collaborations to further achieve the vision of NEWMAP-EIB in the area of providing decision system support, livelihood enhancement, Information & Technology Exchange, Capacity development, Food security, reduce Soil vulnerability to erosion and Watershed Management. The highlight of the meeting was the presentation by Climate Eyes group (online) and presentation on the reduction of post-harvest losses through CO2 cooling solution by Natural Offset Farming (NOF) Omri Hasnes. The meeting had in attendance, Management Staff of the NEWMAP-EIB.

  The Federal Project Management Unit of the European Investment Bank assisted Nigeria Climate Adaptation Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB) led by the National Project Coordinator, Engr. Anda Ayuba Yalaks during the week paid a courtesy visit to the governor of Plateau State, His Excellency , Barr. Caleb Mutfwang in his office in Jos, Plateau State. Engr. Yalaks earlier in his remarks informed the Governor that his team was in Plateau State on a State Readiness Effectiveness mission and to collaborate with the state government for long term sustainable land degradation control measures, provide support to the state project management unit in accelerating the project implementation. He added that the delegation was also to conduct on- the – spot assessment of current erosion situations within the state, and further explore best practices and interventions to mitigate the challenges. While presenting a brief of the sites visited within the state, the NPC applauded the governor for his political will in supporting the project by releasing the counterpart fund for the project. He further disclosed that based on the team’s observation, plateau State has met all the conditions listed by EIB for disbursement, these include: Recruitment of capable staff, a well- furnished SPMU office, availability of project vehicles, availability of counterpart fund, and identified prioritized sites for investment. He, however, appealed to the Plateau State Governor to provide project vehicles for the state project unit. The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang in his response expressed gratitude to the FPMU team for coming to Plateau for this important mission. He also expressed optimism and readiness to provide the necessary support to ensure that the project is a success.
